27th European Day of Jewish Culture“Love אהבה Love”

PROGRAMME – SUNDAY, 6th SEPTEMBER 2026

On Sunday, 6th September 2026, the 27th European Day of Jewish Culture returns across Italy. The event aims to promote greater awareness of Judaism in Italy and throughout Europe as an integral and indispensable part of their shared cultural heritage.

Now a well-established event of considerable artistic and cultural significance, it is coordinated and promoted by the European Association for the Preservation and Promotion of Jewish Culture and Heritage and the Union of Italian Jewish Communities (UCEI). It also highlights the fruitful collaboration between Jewish Communities, local authorities, Pro Loco organisations, and associations actively engaged across the country.

The Jewish Community of Padua invites the public to the Museum of Jewish Padua for the scheduled events.

Sunday, 6th September at the MUSEUM OF JEWISH PADUA:

- 10.00 am – Welcome addresses by the authorities and introduction to the day

Gianni Parenzo, President of the Community, will introduce the significance and theme of the day.

- 10.30 am – Lecture-concert “The Breath of Time: De Lorenzi’s Harmonium and Three Pieces to Tell the Story of a Centuries-Old History”

Curated by Giulia Tommasi, Doctor of Piano Studies, with pieces performed by Lisa Malusa, organist.

A concert that will shed light on the history of De Lorenzi’s 1855 harmonium, which was used by the Community until the mid-20th century.

-3:00 pm Conference and screening of the film Three Stories: Memory between Awareness and Oblivion, presented by Mariarosa Davi, an expert in the History of the Holocaust.

The event will include a historical analysis and a guided tour of the villa and the former concentration camp in Padua.

Event held at VILLA CONTARINI GIOVANELLI VENIER IN VO' VECCHIO.

- 5.30 pm – Lecture-performance “The Doctor of Peace: Love Your Neighbour as Yourself” by Itzhak Eugenio de’ Giorgi, actor, author and director.

A performance exploring the theme of the “repair of the world” and peaceful coexistence, inspired by the teachings of the great 18th-century Paduan Kabbalist Moshe Chaim Luzzatto, combining words and humour as an antidote to hatred.

Throughout the day on SUNDAY, 6th SEPTEMBER, it will be possible to visit the following free of charge:

- The Italian Synagogue with guided tours (tours at 10.00 am – 11.00 am – 12.00 pm – 3.00 pm – 4.00 pm)

- The Museum of Jewish Padua with the web app audio guide (from 12.30 pm to 4.30 pm)

- The Jewish cemeteries of Via Wiel and Via Campagnola with guided tours (guided tours at 11.00 am and 4.00 pm)

We kindly ask men to wear a hat or head covering inside the Synagogue and the Cemeteries.

- 6.00 pm – Lecture “The Boundaries of Desire: Love in Contemporary Israeli Literature”.

Curated by Sara Ferrari, Lecturer in Hebrew Language and Culture (University of Milan).
