Italian Racial Laws
After the publication of the Manifesto della Razza (Manifesto of Racist scientists), the Italian government enacted anti-Jewish laws to protect the presumed. These laws came into effect starting in September 1938 and were signed both by King Vittorio Emanuele III and by the head of government, Benito Mussolini.
These laws prohibited mixed marriages, established criteria to define the Jewish race, confiscated real estate and personal properties of the Jews, declared as stateless those Jews who had obtained Italian citizenship after 1919, and excluded Jews from schools and universities.
