February 21, 1942: Graziella Viterbi obtains a false identity card under the name Graziella Vitelli
In 1942, Graziella Viterbi obtained a false identity card. Both her surname – changed into Vitelli – and her place of birth – now Tunis – had been forged. In addition, her residence changed: Lecce was chosen as the town where she lived. A clandestine group in Assisi gave her the false document, which was issued in Foligno.
Before escaping elsewhere, she had attended the Jewish High School in Padua, after being expelled from the State High School (see Rracial Laws, in 1938). Infact she appears in a group photograph of the Jewish School on 20th June, 1939. She survived the Holocaust.
