December 14, 1943: Piera Almansi obtains a false identity card with the name Maria Piera Cimino
December 14th, 1943 Piera Rachel Almansi receives a false Identity Card. Her name is now Maria Piera, Salvatore Cimino’s daughter. Here is her fake non-Jewish identity: a Christian name and Southern Italy origins. This ID would be valid until 1946.
After September 8 th, 1943 , on realising the impending danger on the two Jewish ladies, Captain Luigi Ortis and Marshal Giuseppe Sulis of the Carabinieri helped Piera and her mother Carmen. They went with them to Florence Municipality in order to achieve the new document. The two gentlemen gave false evidence and risked their own lives. They were recognised by Padua Municipality as Righteous among the Nations in 2023.
